quite possibly.....

...the best band in the world, from the ashes of my favourite band ever
whole album to download here

also this week;

a deluge of live action and workshops in february and march, See the side columns >>>

some abstrad nicked my laptop, the thing of least value to me that i own, my posting is a bit trickier now ...

and won't be helped by my pissing off to georgia (east) for 6 weeks, expect all kinds of vintage communist junk when i return

have been massively distracted in my escape plans by

new/old gameboy synth exclusively ;# controlled by midi
trying like mad to build an interface, but its hard, and odd and no one else has done it

whilst trying to get pushpin going I dicovered lots of freeware gameboy music programs with much thanks to nitro2k1 and his excellent blog i flashed them all to my cart i bought from robb webb . lameboy is #1 if you are US.

last week I was interviewed on Jo Loosemores arts and culture show on Radio Devon. Mp3 D/l Here! (1Mb)

cory archangel is coming to exeter. events at the phoenix and exhibition at spacex. lots of info here particularly like dooogle

Dr Rhythm

I've been modifying my Boss DR-110 drum machine. It was the last all analogue beat box they produced. It already sounded lovely, but had little tweakability and very limited sync possibilities.
I added 6 trigger inputs for the drums. These are short circuit connections that are triggered via midi with my highly liquid MSA-P decoder.
Seeing as i had the box open I also added the tonal mods detailed on Dave Magnuson's ResonantFrequency site.
The pots and triggers for the mod are housed in a VHS cassette box, connected to the 110 via a 25pin d-type . I used every pin, plus the chassis of the connector. I plan to add the accent trigger in via the trigger out jack.
Here are some pictures. I'm editing a little video that I'll stick up as soon as.
I really like it.

still winning

damo last night was good, especially lion lies down and egg yum yum . have some video to prove it too.

here's the schematic for my ACITEST box. its a heavily modified hex-inverter oscillator, using 2 inverters as oscillators, one as a pre-amp/distortion and mega diode modulation as can be seen below in the schematic;

Bastardo and the Acitest

short clip of me vj'ing with dj bastardo at gob. modded nes, midines, mpc500, modded sony home studio and colour corrector

i found this image i made of the bend points on the nintendo, and the cic lockout pin that needs disabling to play multi-region carts

i also modded both nes that i use with stereo outs. this splits the audio signal before the mono mixer and gives you the square wave channels on one out and the triangle, noise + samples on another. it also gives a much cleaner signal, ie a much lower noise floor.
more info here

aaaand here's my latest noise box, the 'acitest'. A heavily modded hex inverter as seen in nic collins' .
book. Pics and schematic to follow, but for now, a little movie

*EDIT* here's the schematic;

It worked. We now have 8 hours of 16 tracks of synchronous music for a theme park ride. Reaper is really nice, I'd strongly recommend it. It made all the tricky tasks like I/O routing and sync editing really straightforward. Btw the music is hilarious, I'll try to post some soon.

More free stuff .
I'd been looking for a freeware stand alone drum sound synthesiser. Drumsynth is based on the same analogue synthesis used in all the classic tasty analogue drum machines.
Time to feed my MPC

And everyone loves hardware hacking right? These guys have got some really cute DIY circuits up, including a very simple sequencer and an envelope generator, oli?

If it works for my job on friday, I love it and I'm not re-installing my kosher version of cubase.

Hey Hey, welcome to my world. This is the place for my new toys, inventions and crackpot schemes.
One of my first ever bends was the 'orang-a-twang' >>>>>
a spaced out childrens dance mat noise box

the twang pictured is now owned by DJ Vadim, and was used on a track on his new album the soundcatcher on BBE. No idea which track, I'm still trying to find the sample x
